McConaughey’s Oscar acceptance speech is often looked upon as exemplary.
He said: “Every day, every week, every month and every year of my life, my hero’s always 10 years away. I’m never gonna be my hero.

Not only did Buyers Club win McConaughey an Oscar, but he also won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, as well as an AACTA International Award.
McConaughey’s role in American anthology crime drama series True Detective was also critically acclaimed, and in 2015 he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries.
